Prevent Strategy/Our Risk Assessment
Prevent is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent is 1 of the 4 elements of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
The aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming radicalised (the process by which people come to support terrorism and extremism and, in some cases, to then participate in terrorist activity)
Schools help to protect children from extremist and violent views in the same ways that they help to safeguard children from drugs, gang violence or alcohol.
Channel is part of the Prevent strategy. The process is a multi-agency approach to identify and provide support to individuals who may be at risk of being drawn into terrorism.
All of our staff have been trained in raising awareness of Prevent, understanding the risk of radicalisation and extremism, recognising signs that may mean that pupils are at risk and how to refer children who may be vulnerable.
