Aromatherapy Massage

Some Children in school are chosen to receive Massage Therapy.  Parental permission is always received prior to any intervention.  We feel that this form of therapy is beneficial to pupils.

Information about Massage:

Massage has been used in all cultures for thousands of years.  It is a non-verbal form of communication.  Massage is given and received throug the sense of touch, making it very valuable to each child.   Touch is a need of all living beings and can be a more emotionally powerful means of communication than speech.

Benefits of Massage:

There are many benefits to massage including:

  • Improving non-verbal communication, or be the starting point for it.
  • Producing a feeling of calmness

Interactive massage is used to encourage communication, participation, response, trust and interaction with others.

Some responses which can be promoted by massage include encouraging eye contact, increasing self-esteem, encouraging interaction and controlled and spontaneous movement, helping duirng crisis management and providing psychological comfort when emotions are in turmoil.
